The studio was completed on September 1, 1979 - and the recording of several songs that were eventually released on the album 『You Are What You Is』began in July, 1980. Zappa would use the studio regularly until his death in 1993. Although the studio wasn’t completed until late 1979, Zappa mentioned The Utility Muffin Research Kitchen in his song the “Muffin Man” from the 1975 album Bongo Fury featuring Captain Beefheart & the Mothers. Also, at the end of Zappa’s album Joe’s Garage, released in 1979, the album’s protagonist Joe gives into conformity and gets a job on the assembly line at the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen. This t-shirt design pays tribute to Frank Zappa and his music, his creativity, and his boundless sense of humor.
