If one were searching for the epitome of ‘musical genius’, then they should look no further than Frank Zappa. A composer at heart, Zappa composed rock, pop, jazz, jazz fusion, orchestral and musique concrète works. He also produced almost all of the 60-plus albums that he released with his band the Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist. Zappa also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers. He is considered one of the most innovative and stylistically diverse musicians of his generation. Zappa was a strident critic of mainstream education and organized religion; and a forthright and passionate advocate for freedom of speech, self-education, political participation and the abolition of censorship. Unlike many other rock musicians of his generation, Zappa was against drug use and expected the members of his band to refrain from using drugs while working for him. Zappa did however support the decriminalization and regulation of drugs. A deep thinker who was lightyears ahead of his time, Zappa was self-educated. He felt that going to college was a waste of time and money. He once said: “If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want an education, go to the library.” This t-shirt design is a modern take on an actual t-shirt that Zappa wore, poking fun at mainstream education in a manner that only he could.
