Scratch had a soul and rhythm of his own and he always knew exactly what he wanted, and the musicians respected that. It started with him creating the basic rhythm by balancing the drum and the bass. Then came the task of balancing the other instruments, and getting the rhythm to the point where he was ready to record. When the balance was right, the rhythm track was laid down; and when Scratch was satisfied with the rhythm - artists such as Junior Murvin and The Heptones would put the vocals on.
